In The Future No-one is Going to Make a PC exclusive Game

Roy Taylor, Nvidia's VP of Content Business Development, believes consoles can never "kill" PC gaming, but that very soon it simply won't make any sense from a business standpoint to create PC-exclusive titles.

"The value of consoles is such that no-one is going to make a PC-exclusive game in the future," Taylor argues in a recent interview with Eurogamer.

"That said, PC gaming is changing - and consoles don't threaten PC gaming. They're just different."

Despite the impending dearth of PC exclusives, Taylor believes the PC simply can't ever completely fall to consoles, as when comparing games ported across multiple systems, "the console is a baseline, the PC is going to be an improved version."

Not only that, Taylor also believes the trend of consoles mimicking PCs is actually beneficial to the PC gaming scene.

"In the past, PC gaming development meant pandering to the lowest common denominator - which meant some poor integrated graphics," he said.

"Today, developing a PC game means starting at a console, and console graphics are way above integrated graphics. That means the baseline is getting better. Now we're going to add to that version additional features, additional content, to make the PC version even better."

  1. I tend to agree with him. PC gaming platform is still a huge market, one that isn't likely to go away any time soon.
